In our blog post, you can find every detail about alkaline water, including its benefits and how to make it at home.

Plastics, when discarded, can degrade into microplastic form over time, or occasionally, intentional production of small plastics may occur. Microplastics result from the breakdown of larger pieces or deliberate production, making them ubiquitous in daily life.

Water consumption is crucial for maintaining general well-being and effective metabolism. All cells, tissues, and organs in our body require water. Therefore, experts emphasize the importance of drinking the ideal amount of water throughout the day.

Although there is growing awareness of the importance of drinking water, some related concepts still need clarification, such as alkaline water. The abundance of information about the benefits of alkaline water raises the question, "What is alkaline water?"

Alkaline water is essentially basic water containing minerals like bicarbonate, potassium, and calcium. The term "alkaline" refers to the water's pH level, which measures acidity or alkalinity. A pH below 7 is acidic, while a pH above 7 is alkaline. Our blood also has a pH value, typically between 7.35 and 7.45, which is slightly alkaline, crucial for maintaining health.

Balanced alkaline diets and consuming alkaline water can benefit the body's acid-base balance. Alkaline diets may be recommended, especially when body fluids' pH levels are low.

What Does Alkaline Water Mean?

Alkaline water, with a pH level above 7, is considered basic. It typically has a higher pH level compared to regular drinking water, ranging from 8 to 9. However, pH alone is not sufficient to classify water as alkaline; it should also contain alkaline minerals and have a negative oxidation-reduction potential, indicating antioxidant properties.

What are the Benefits of Alkaline Water?

The potential health benefits of alkaline water include reducing blood glucose, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels, protecting pancreatic cells, and contributing to weight balance. Additionally, it may alleviate symptoms related to kidney diseases and digestive issues. While some studies suggest benefits like improved bone density and blood flow, further research is needed to confirm these effects conclusively.

Risks of Alkaline Water?

Alkaline water consumption is generally safe, but individuals with kidney-related diseases should exercise caution. Possible side effects include itchiness, dry skin, and upset stomach. Moreover, alkaline water may interact with medications, affecting their absorption rates.

How to Make Alkaline Water?

Alkaline water can be easily made at home using either lemons or sodium bicarbonate. For lemon-infused alkaline water, add one sliced lemon to one liter of water and let it sit for 8-12 hours. Alternatively, mix 1/8 tablespoon of sodium bicarbonate with approximately 0.25 liters of filtered water. Regardless of the method, ensure the water used is clean and high-quality, free from microplastics and contaminants.

Who Can't Drink Alkaline Water?

Individuals with digestive disorders or chronic kidney diseases should consult a physician before consuming alkaline water. While generally safe, the long-term effects of alkaline water consumption require further research.
